'Kantara' box office collection: The Rishab Shetty film almost ends its theatrical run with Rs 615 crore net in India
Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ has been running in theatres for more than a month, and the film continues to perform steadily despite several new releases. Even after its OTT premiere on October 31, it has managed to draw audiences to cinemas, standing firm against titles like ‘Baahubali: The Epic’, ‘Thamma’, ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ and ‘The Taj Story’. However, it now appears that the film is nearing the end of its theatrical journey.
A few days ago, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ had already surpassed Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ at the domestic box office, and it has now gone past its worldwide total as well. The film has become the top-grossing Indian film globally, collecting Rs 832.42 crore in 33 days, including Rs 110.50 crore from overseas markets. It is now the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, behind only ‘KGF: Chapter 2’.
On the domestic front, the film earned Rs 1.85 crore on its fifth Friday, Rs 3.6 crore on Saturday, and Rs 3.65 crore on Sunday. On its fifth Monday, it collected around Rs 1 crore, followed by Rs 1.15 crore each on Tuesday and Wednesday. Its Week 4 total stood at Rs 37.6 crore, a dip of just over 52% from the previous week but still strong for its fifth weekend. With these numbers, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ has reached Rs 614 crore in India, moving ahead of ‘Chhaava’, which stands at around Rs 601 crore.
'Kantara Chapter 1' collected Rs 13.3 crore in just its fifth week, taking its overall total to Rs 615 crore net in India. Out of this, the Kannada version has made Rs 197.37 crore and it missed the opportunity to cross Rs 200 crore in Kannada as it released on OTT on October 31. Or else, the 200-crore mark would have been historic.
Despite being available on OTT, the film continues to hold its ground at the box office, which is a rare feat today. The film though is behind 'KGF 2' which had an India net collection of Rs 859 crore according to Sacnilk.
Now that there are new releases this Friday, it can be assumed that 'Kantaara: Chapter 1' has now ended its box office run as the collection saw an all time low of just Rs 65 lakhs on Thursday. The domestic net is now Rs 615 crore and while the gross collection of the film Rs 733 crore.
