Over the past 12 years,
Alia Bhatt has cemented her position in the Indian film industry as one of its strongest players, with films like Raazi, Darlings, RRR, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Riding on the success of these films, she attempted her latest project Jigra, which is backed by her and her mentor,
Karan Johar. However, the film has been facing significant difficulties at the box office, despite having only
Rajkummar Rao’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video to contend with, at the ticket window.
Jigra opened to mixed reviews, and the impact was reflected in its collections. The first weekend earnings were just ₹16.6 crore, making it her second-lowest first-weekend collection. Her lowest was Imtiaz Ali’s Highway, which earned only ₹13.99 crore.
On Monday, Jigra faced the biggest Monday drop of Alia's career, surpassing the declines in her previous films like Shaandaar and Kalank. Jigra collected just ₹1.50 crore on Monday, a 72% drop from its Sunday collection of ₹5.50 crore. In comparison, Highway witnessed a 61% drop, collecting ₹2.25 crore on Monday after a Sunday collection of ₹5.75 crore.
Alia experienced her first failure with the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Shaandaar, which had collected ₹6.10 crore on Sunday, and dropped by 63%, earning only ₹2.20 crore on Monday. Kalank saw a 67% drop, with its Sunday collection of ₹11.63 crore falling to ₹3.75 crore on Monday.
