'Jigra' box office collection day 17: The Alia Bhatt starrer makes Rs 75 lakh on third Sunday
Jigra had released with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and the latter had an edge over it from day 1. The Rajkummar Rao, Triptii Dimri, Alia Bhatt movie fell into the more massy category hence it generated more numbers from the opening day itself which has just continued.
Vasan Bala's Jigra had come down to the amount in lakhs ever since its started with its week 2 on Monday and has continued. There was a growth by a very low margin on Saturday and Sunday. On its third Saturday, the movie had made around Rs 65 lakh while on Sunday, it generated an amount of Rs 75 lakh which was a slight growth. The total collection of the movie now stands at Rs 31.10 crore according to Sacnilk.
Overall, 'Jigra' had a dull second week before the week 3 kickstarted on Friday. It had a drop of 70 percent in week 2 as compared to week 1. The film is targetted to a niche audience hence it wasn't expected to bring in those huge numbers anway, but one had thought that positive word of mouth, may do wonders. However, the criticism towards the movie hasn't been able to generate a good word of mouth.
'Jigra' has done better overseas and made around a $3 million which is around Rs 25 crore, according to Box Office India. Thus, this shows that the star power with Alia's presence has worked abroad but now in India. The UK numbers and the numbers from the gulf are very good. The UK numbers will fall in the same line as 'Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan' and the numbers of 'Shaitaan' in that centre.
As far as India is concerned, the movie may end up with a lifetime business of anywhere between Rs 32 to Rs 35 crore.
