English Vinglish gets a good start, KLPD is a washout
From the two releases of the week, Sridevi's comeback film 'English Vinglish' has certainly overtaken Vivek Oberoi's 'Kismat Love Paisa Dilli' and how.
English Vinglish had a strong positive vibe to it. The film started on a slow note on Friday but picked up commendably everywhere over the weekend thanks to good word of mouth. It collected a decent Rs 13 crores in its opening weekend.
1x1 polls
Sridevi's lively performance and Gauri Shinde's sensitive direction have worked wonders for the film. Sridevi has made a pleasant comeback and is hopefully here to stay.
Sanjay Khanduri who directed the cult comedy Ek Chalis Ki Last Local disappointed with its thematic sequel Kismat Love Paisa Dilli. Neither was the film well-promoted not was it high on content. The performances by Vivek Oberoi and Mallika Sherawat were lackluster and the humour was too unexciting. Evidently KLPD met with a dismal response at the box-office.
Interestingly the earlier week's good films like OMG - Oh My God and Barfi continue to do good business at the box-office.
The coming week sees multiple releases - as many as seven. The most promising amongst the list is Rani Mukherji's Aiyyaa co-produced by Anurag Kashyap. Interestingly another Anurag Kashyup co-production Chittagong is releasing on the same date. This much delayed film is about the uprising of Chittagong set in the 1930 British era, the same plot on which Ashutosh Gowarikar made his last film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se in 2010. Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of Surjya Sen portrayed by
Abhishek Bachchan in the earlier film.
Ram Gopal Varma comes with his sequel to Bhoot as Bhoot Returns starring Manisha Koirala and JD Chakravarthy. Telugu blockbuster Eega is dubbed in Hindi as Makkhi. The film starring Sudeep has some brilliant special effects and is a visual delight.
Amongst the smaller releases are Nishigandha Wad starrer In The Name of Tai, Chandrachur Singh-Sanjay Suri starrer Prem Mayee and a film called Login.
