Universal and Illumination’s latest animated film, opened to a strong $27 million on Wednesday, state box office reports on Variety. This impressive opening is a boost for movie theatres, which have seen a resurgence with other major releases.

'Inside Out 2', 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die', and 'A Quiet Place: Day One' have all attracted significant audiences in recent weeks. 'Inside Out 2' earned $7.1 million on Wednesday, pushing its North America domestic gross to $496.5 million, and is expected to surpass the $500 million mark by Thursday, making it the third highest-grossing animated film domestically.

'A Quiet Place: Day One' added $4.4 million, bringing its U.S. total to $68.6 million, while 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' collected $1.2 million, raising its domestic earnings to $169.1 million.

Meanwhile, Kevin Costner’s epic Western 'Horizon: An American Saga' grossed $1.1 million. Despite its financial struggles, the film has earned $14.8 million in its first week. Costner, who produced, co-wrote, and stars in the film, partially self-financed the multi-part production. Despite its poor reception, a second installment is set to release in August, with filming on a third chapter in the making.
