Of the 7 releases of the week gone by, only one has managed to survive while all others have been outright rejected by the audience. This simply proves the fact that quantity doesnt mean more choice for the audience. Its quality that matters. The audience, today, is smart enough to gauge a movie by its cover and thats precisely why all the 6 releases met with an absolutely cold response.
Sohail Khan Arbaaz Khan starrer Kisaan dates back to Manoj Kumars era when farmer films were a phenomenon. Today the idea and execution both looked archaic. Randeep Hooda along with his seven ladyloves arrived and left without trace in Love Khichdi. The comedy film Daddy Cool didnt appeal to audiences with its toilet humour. The suspense-thriller flick Toss went for a toss because of bad performances and a messy plotline. N Chandras social drama Yeh Mera India (earlier titled Breaking News) got lost in the crowd due to lack of promotion. Bipasha Basus first Bengali film Shubh Charitro Kalpanik was targeted towards the arty audience and released only in a couple of screens in metros. Only the spoof-comedy Quick Gun Murugun managed to sail through. This low-budget film with a lesser known star cast had tremendous hype surrounding it and looked promising amongst other releases of the week. Quick Gun Murugun released across 400 screens in English, Hindi and Tamil versions. The film opened better than all the other movies this weekend. The movie has done well in multiplexes across the country. In Mumbai and Delhi, Quick Gun Murugun has garnered at least 30% higher numbers at the box office than the next best movie.Bangalore audiences have lapped up the movie and Quick Gun Murugun has generated 85% higher figures than that of any other movie released this week. In Chennai the movie was sold out for the weekend at Sathyam Cinema. The English version has connected with the audiences due to its quirky flavour and though the Hindi has had a slow start, it is warming up in the hinterlands. In spite of Ganeshotsav in Maharashtra and Ramzan the footfalls for Saturday were higher than those of Friday by over 50%. Question: Which film/s from the 7 releases of the week (Aagey Se Right, Three, Fox, Chintuji, Mohandas, Bachelor Party, Rita) are you keen to watch? Trade experts assert that this is not a case of overconfidence but producers of small films are left with no choice. The one looking most promising is UTV Spotboys Aagey Se Right starring Shreyas Talpade, Kay Kay Menon and Mahie Gill. Vikram Bhatt produced Three Love Lies Betrayal is being widely promoted. Directed by debutante Vishal Pandya, this thriller tale of adultery stars Ashish Chaudhary, Akshay Kapoor and Nausheen Ali Sardar (of TV serial Kkusum fame). Can Sunny Deol still manage to pull in crowds needs to be seen in Fox, which also stars Arjun Rampal. Rishi Kapoor plays himself in the small-sweet film Chintuji directed by writer Ranjeet Kapoor. Cinematographer turned director Mazhar Kamrans festival film Mohandas is targeted towards the multiplex audience. Despite names like Arbaaz Khan and Jimmy Shergill associated with it, the film Bachelor Party almost falls in the B-grade league. Its directed by Isshaan Trivedi who is currently on Cloud 9 for directing Himesh Reshammiya in the film Radio. Amidst the regional releases, Renuka Shahane directed Marathi flick Rita which also stars Jackie Shroff and Pallavi Joshi will arrive this week. Amol Palekars Marathi film Samaantar costarring Sharmila Tagore released through Big Pictures will hit theatres this week as well.Question: Which film/s from the 7 releases of the week (Aagey Se Right, Three, Fox, Chintuji, Mohandas, Bachelor Party, Rita) are you keen to watch?
