Two big releases, Kaminey and Life Partner were slated for release last Friday to cash on the extended weekend holiday (from public holidays of Krishna Janmashtmi and Independence Day). Unfortunately for them the film did not release in any screen in Mumbai and Pune city due to the swine-flu threat that had hit the nation. With Mumbai being a major revenue center for any film, both the films incurred losses.
Kaminey lost around Rs 5 crores while Life Partner lost around Rs 2 crores.Nevertheless Kaminey received an impressive opening elsewhere in the country. Though not amongst the biggest openings of the year, as was being predicted in trade circles, Kaminey is still the biggest opening for any Shahid, Priyanka and Vishal Bharadwaj film so far. We are completely delighted with the reaction from moviegoers who have loved the film. The response has been fantastic," said Girish Johar, AVP, UTV Motion Pictures. The film has collected around Rs 16.5 crores in its opening weekend. Kaminey has received rave reviews and the movie has witnessed strong box office collections across locations. With the opening up of multiplexes in Mumbai on Monday we have seen the expected rush in advance bookings and expect the strong response to continue throughout the week and the coming weekend," said Tushar Dhingra, COO BIG Cinemas. Question: Which upcoming Bollywood film promises maximum potential at the box-office? Leave your comments below... The other release Life Partner was clearly over-shadowed by Kaminey. Despite being a multi-starrer comedy, the opening collections werent as encouraging as expected. While most multiplex chains are running 24-26 shows for 'Kaminey' in a day, only 6-8 shows are allotted to Life Partner. Clearly, loud and outdated comedies do not work anymore. Life Partner has collected around Rs 6.5 crores. Question: Which upcoming Bollywood film promises maximum potential at the box-office? Leave your comments below... The next week sees the releases of three comparatively smaller films. Sikandar starring Parzaan Dastur, Ayesha Kapoor, R Madhavan and Sanjay Suri is a social film with a sensitive message. The dance drama Fast Forward stars Rehan Khan and Akshay Kapoor, who havent tasted solo-success yet. Naseer Khan has been widely promoting Shadow as his grand launch film. But the sympathy votes (Naseer Khan is blind in real life) dont promise to transform into potential audience. With no strong competition, Kaminey has good scope to continue minting money in next week as well and cover up for the losses incurred in this week.
