After a less-than-stellar 2024, Akshay Kumar is set to make his return to the big screen with his latest film, Sky Force. Based on real incidents, the film is directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur and produced by Dinesh Vijan. It narrates the story of India’s retaliatory attack on the Pakistani airbase in Sargodha during the Indo-Pak war of 1965.

On September 6, 1965, Pakistani forces launched an assault on Indian airbases at Pathankot and Halwara. In response, Indian pilots carried out a daring attack on Sargodha the very next day, inflicting significant damage on one of Asia's most fortified airbases. This mission holds a special place in history as it marked the only instance where the Indian Air Force posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra to a fighter pilot—Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya.

Newcomer Veer Pahariya plays the pivotal role of the late Squadron Leader, who was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for his bravery and sacrifice in saving the lives of his team members. The film also stars Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan in key roles, adding depth to the narrative.

The advance bookings for Sky Force have shown a promising start. With almost a day left before the shows begin, the film has already sold tickets worth ₹2.5 crore. According to trade analysts, the film is expected to open with collections of around ₹7 to ₹8 crore. However, given the current buzz surrounding the film, it might just hit double digits by the end of day one. The film also benefits from the Republic Day holiday, which could boost its opening day collections.

However, Sky Force might face challenges in sustaining its run at the box office. Shahid Kapoor’s Deva, slated for release on January 31, has been generating significant buzz since the unveiling of its first poster. The subsequent release of its title song and trailer has further heightened expectations, posing stiff competition for Sky Force in the days following its release.

The early indicators for Sky Force suggest an engaging watch, with a gripping story based on real events and a talented cast. Whether it can maintain its momentum at the box office amidst competition remains to be seen.
