Ankit Tiwari has several hit romantic tracks to his credit, including

'Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu'

and 'Teri Galliyan', both as a singer and music composer. But when it comes to performing in college fests, especially in Delhi, there’s no particular genre for Ankit, who says that Delhi youngsters have an insatiable appetite for music. In a chat, the singer-composer spoke about Delhi’s dhamaal crowd, gorging on chhole bhature in CP and how being from a small city in UP has helped him stay grounded.

Dilli ki ladkiyan, yahan ke ladke, yahan ka crowd – alag hi swag hai
He said, "When any artist performs for students, it automatically means they are getting a young crowd. So our excitement increases manifolds. I had performed in DU some months ago, aur bahut maza aaya tha. Show ki energy double ho jaati hai. And people here have an insatiable appetite for music. They love musical concerts and enjoy them a lot. Yahan kisko perform karna achha nahi lagega? Aur Dilli ka crowd toh dhamaal hai. Dilli ka crowd, yahan ki ladkiyan, yahan ke ladke – alag hi swag hai."

But that’s not the only thing he loves about Delhi. Ankit said, "I really like yahan ka khana. When I had come here last time, main hoodie daal ke CP gaya tha chhole bhature khaane. Mujhse ruka nahi gaya. Kaise laate hain Dilliwaale aisa taste apne khaane mein? I come from UP, so I can say that I have some knowledge about food and flavours. Delhi’s food is just outstanding."

The Kanpur-born singer said he’s still attached to his roots and enjoys eating daal chawal at home. "When I was studying in school in Kanpur, I had made up my mind that I wanted to be a singer. Mujhe aur kuch aata hi nahi tha. Main aaj yahan nahi hota toh Kanpur ke kisi music school mein teacher hota,” he said, adding, “I might be away from home, but I make it a point to come to Kanpur on festivals, especially Diwali. I enjoy sitting on the floor in my house and eating daal chawal. That will remain with me wherever I go."

UPwallahs, Ankit said, have an easily identifiable personality trait. "UP mein ek word famous hai – rang baazi. Bahut rang baazi chalti hai wahan. Sab apne ilaake ke sher hain. Par dil se utne hi seedhe hote hain. That’s why when they go to bigger cities, their seedhapan gets highlighted. And I’m not talking only about myself. UP ka jo bhi hoga woh alag se dikh jaayega bade shehron mein. UP ke log dil se bade masoom aur cute hote hain."
