The young voices in Ahmedabad’s theatre world are varied, vibrant and they are looking at different social issues with a keen eye. Recently, Amdavadis watched

Ankit Gor

’s play titled Semicolon. The play did strike a chord with the audiences. A

semicolon

represents a sentence that the author could have ended but chosen not to. He/she takes a pause, follows it up by a fresh sentence and not the end.
The play looks at two people meeting on an online matching site and then taking their relationship forward by marrying. But then that’s the beginning of the story as it looks at nuances of inter-personal relationships, issues of mental health and lots more.
Theatre veteran

Aditi Desai

took to social media to say, “Semicolon. Bravo Ankit Gor.” Swati Joshi, a young professional who watched the play says, “It was refreshing to watch this play. The young theatre artistes in the city are now pushing their creative boundaries and they are exploring newer ways to look at love, life and relationships. And they are looking beyond stereotypes.”
Agrees Aditya R, a collegian, “I make it a point now to watch plays directed by young people. They bring out newer voices. I particularly liked Semicolon because it dealt with insecurities and issues of mental health and above all human relationship. And this kind of plays now make Ahmedabad theatre scene as really vibrant and engaging.”
