and Abhinay Banker had opened at Tejpal auditorium in Mumbai on the same day in 2010. “It was a very emotional moment for me when I woke up to a backstage member of ours posting the ticket of the first show on social media today,” he said.

When asked about the journey of the play in the past nine years and what made it so popular, Saumya says, “I have always been saying that Gujarati

audience is very intelligent. It feels good when a lot of people who watch it for the third or fourth time say that they still find the play very fresh everytime they watch it.”

On how is the team of the play, that is based on the life of a Gujarati middleclass family settled in Mumbai, planning to celebrate the moment, the director quips, “We are having a show in Himmatnagar on Saturday and that is where we will celebrate.”

The play was last staged at Thakorbhai Desai Hall in Ahmedabad which was also its 699th show. Saumya says they have kept modifying the play over the years to keep it relevant. “If what you are doing excites you, it will genuinely entertain the audience too,” he signs off.
