Post Navratri garbas abroad keep Gujarati musicians busy

A lot of Gujarati musicians are abroad for post-Navratri gigs
Navratri might be over for Amdavadis, but Gujarati musicians are still reveling in the

garba

festivities while performing abroad during their post-Navratri gigs. Musicians like Devang Patel, Parth Oza, Kinjal Dave, Meet Jain,

Aishwarya Majmudar

and Dimple Biscuitwala are currently touring with a choc-a-bloc itinerary of back to back performances that will continue till Diwali. Most of these artists look forward to travelling to various distant destinations as these performances give them a chance to interact with their fans abroad and NRGs also get a chance to groove to their garba beats. Festivals, especially Navratri are also a good time to rake in the moolah for these performers.

These garba events abroad are a starry affair with celebrity singers remaining in high demand. Singers like Devang Patel, Parth Oza and Aishwarya Majmudar attract huge crowds and revellers look forward to twirling to their garba numbers as well as queue up for selfies once the performance is over. Says Devang Patel, who is currently in the USA, “The enthusiasm is at its peak during such performances as this is the time when NRGs get a feel of festive celebrations. With lovely décor, beautifully lit interiors, traditional music and lots of dance and masti, the atmosphere is just electric.” He adds, “Popular names attract more crowd and I often perform to pack houses. It’s amazing to see such energy.”
Global reach ranks over monetary returns
While festivals are considered good time for artists to earn well, most artists travelling abroad for post-Navratri concerts see these events as a chance to be recognised globally and extend their musical reach. Says actor and singer Dimple Biscuitwala, “Performing at different venues in foreign countries means we got to connect with the Gujarati audiences. Such concerts are good to be globally visible and be recognised as artists amongst NRGs. The kind of love and appreciation we get is an added advantage.”
