How did your heart find its way to music? My father was into music. I grew up watching his love for music. He always wanted me to pursue music as my career. Later, even I developed a love for music and started my journey at the age of 7.
You started performing at a young age. What is the one sacrifice you've had to make in your life?I really missed my childhood! That’s the most important thing I sacrificed for music and performances.
Tell us your involvement in the field of music therapy? For me, music is sacred and pure. It heals my mind, body and soul. It is refreshing and also gives entertainment along with joy and peace.
You have crooned many Gujarati film songs and now ‘Kesariya’ will also have your voice. Will these songs be different from your earlier tracks?Yes, of course because the story of the film is very different from the others. There are two different cultures of Kutch and London so I have to make sure that both the cultures should be there in the songs. That’s why, the songs are different from the sound of Kutchi music with a modern approach! It’s more like fusion but very authentic. And I have tried my best for the same and hope people will like it.
This is your sixth film with Dhwani Gautam where you are the music director. How has it been working for his films so far?Yes, this is my sixth film with Dhwani. He is the most talented person I have ever met. It is super fun working with him as he gives me all the freedom to work the way I want and give justice to the songs.
You have worked with several Bollywood personalities. Share your experience for the same.I have worked with AR Rehman Sir as a music producer and it was an amazing experience to just be with him. I have also worked with Sachin Gupta as a co-composer and music producer. He is a very talented composer and it was fun working with him too.
Nakash Aziz and Saragam Jassu are like my brothers and it’s always fun working with them. There are many more who have contributed to my journey.
People call you the AR Rahman of Gujarati cinema as the music you give has a touch of Hindi cinema. What are your thoughts on this?I feel humbled and would like to carry forward the love and trust of people in me.
You are one of the favourites of Kirtidan Gadhvi and Bhoomi Trivedi. Do you know why?I am grateful to them for their love. I always internalise their song, feel it and then compose the music for it. I have always tried that the soul of the song can be felt by everyone. Maybe they like this part of me.
