A recent revision in the

subsidy policy for Gujarati films

has brought cheers among the industry players. The new policy which was last revised in 2016 stands to provide more financial help to filmmakers and the film industry is looking at it as a step towards the betterment of Gujarati cinema. A number of new provisions have been added in the revised policy which will come into effect immediately.
“This is a very balanced policy,” says filmmaker Manish Saini, whose debut Gujarati film

received a National Award for Best Gujarati Film in 2018 and received a subsequent subsidy. He adds, “There are various other states that have similar policies in place, but the policy our state government has developed is very filmmaker friendly and pro-development of the Gujarati cinema. This will not only encourage more filmmakers to make better films, it will also help rural films as the criteria to qualify for the subsidy have been broadened and there is a minimum amount to be given to all those who apply for it.”
