In a recently help webinar by Ahmedabad Times on the topic of
nepotism, favouristism and groupism in the regional film industry and how these factors work on a different level within the industry,
Mikhil Musale pointed out that the Gujarati film industry works in a very warm way and that warmth is irreplaceable. The webinar, which was also joined by the likes of
Hitu Kanodia, Hiten Kumar,
Malhar Thakar amongst others saw celebrities giving their take on the insider-outsider debate.
Talking about his experience, Mikhil said, “I have worked in both the Gujarati film industry and
Bollywood
and these two industries work on a very different level. It is not correct to compare these two industries, in fact the kind of warmth the Gujarati film industry has is irreplaceable. No matter which other film industry I go on to work with in the future,
Dhollywood
would always remain my safety nest as this is where I started my career and it remains special to me. I know for a fact that even though I haven’t worked with Malhar, if I call him, he will definitely take time out to have a conversation. Similarly, I haven’t worked with Hitu sir or Hiten bhai, but if I approach them for a film they will give a positive response. This kind of warmth is not there in any other industry, which is what makes our industry so special.”
He adds, “And as far as nepotism is concerned, it is everywhere, not just a particular film industry. And I am fine with it unless someone misuses their power.”
