‘Jai Somnath’: Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ketan Mehta unite for epic historical film

Their partnership brings together two of Indian cinema’s creative forces, setting the stage for an emotional experience.‘Jai Somnath’ tells the story of the events that took place in 1025–1026 CE, when Mahmud of Ghazni attacked and looted the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, an important moment in Indian history. This year marks 1000 years since that attack, the temple’s destruction, and its rebuilding. The story of Somnath stands for India’s strong and unbroken spirit. For the first time, this historic event is being turned into a film. Because of its deep cultural and emotional meaning, the movie is expected to deeply connect with audiences as it explores an important part of India’s past that has never been shown in cinema before.
