Gujarati entertainment is known for it's love for its rustic, old world charm. Many Gujarati movies have a rural or ancient touch to it and joining the list is upcoming film Vav directed by Ashok Patel.
Vav is a film about a step well that happens to be right in the middle of villages who share the water from the well and are on very friendly terms. However circumstances change and the villages turn into rivals who are then later brought closer again by the same step well.

Says director Ashok Patel, "At a time when most Gujarati films are looking at modern day settings and trying to make urban films, I have attempted to make a film set a few centuries ago. Right from the set to the costumes, everything about the film has an old world charm." So why make a film that doesn't match the current trend of regional film making? Says Patel, "Vav may not have modern settings, in fact you won't even see a lamp post of anything related to electricity also in the film, the characters are dressed in dhotis and chaniyas, however, my film has soul and that will attract my audience." Vav is currently getting approved from the censor board and is set to release on 8th or 15th August, though the makers are keen on an Independence day release. The film has been entirely shot in Kaleshwar, on the sasu-vahu ni vav.
