We don't release our films in multiplexes because they will have to cancel our shows due to lack of audience: Barkat Wadhwania
Barkat Wadhwania firmly believes that one should make films purely for the pleasure of filmmaking and states that in Gujarati cinema, the yardstick to measure the 'superhit-ness' is different. "In regular Gujarati cinema, a film a superhit if it is able to earn all the money back and does not make a loss, that is the yardstick I have for my films. I make films within the budget of 50 lacs to 1 crore and when I can recover all of it back - I consider my film a superhit.

This is pretty much the definition for all other filmmakers like me." Wadhwania considers it good fortune if the film makes a big profit too! "My 2011 film 'Praan Jaye Pan Preet Na Jaye' was well-received by audiences all across the state. Traditionally, if you didn't have a Thakur in your film, your film would never be a hit, but this one had no such character and I still made a profit!" Contrary to popular belief that only rural audiences watch these films, Wadhwania begs to differ, "I make most of money from cities and not villages as is believed. Of course, the kind of audience is different. We don't release our films in multiplexes because they will have to cancel our shows due to lack of audience. Our city viewers come to small cinema halls and love our films just the same." Talking about his latest offering, 'Prem Rog' which is slated for release in August, Wadhwania says, "There is a lot of interest among people regarding this film. It's a romantic musical and people love that kind of cinema. We are presently dubbing for the film."
