Destination Ahmedabad for Gujarati filmmakers
In Ahmedabad locations like Kankaria Lake, Sabarmati River Front, various old city pols and Adalaj Ni Vav are getting a lot of filmy attention. Actor Divyang Thakkar says, We were shooting at the pols during Uttarayan and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The kite flying and tukkal flying experience was amazing as it was so much fun shooting at the pol area.
New locations create curiosity
Director Dinesh Avasthi, who shot the movie Koi Ne Kehsho Nahi! at Kankaria Lake, River Front and a city based mall, says, Its about striking a connect with the audiences. The rawness of locations in Ahmedabad made me shoot here. The earthy appeal of River Front made me shoot the song Prem Bharelu Maro Dil there. At the same time, Kyare Jaishu Pattaya?, where Arvind Wegda makes an on-screen appearance as an actor, has been shot in Ahmedabad. While films like Bey Yaar and Canvas explore various college campuses in the city, films like Aa To Prem Chhe focused on exploring sites like Adalaj Ni Vav and Kankaria Lake.
Think global, act local
With production values of Gujarati films having enhanced, filmmakers are now realizing the need to make films with great production values. Says director Vijay K Patel, Shooting a film in
Ahmedabad just for the sake of shooting will not yield any benefit. The essence is to connect with the audience. A location just takes forward the universal appeal of a story. Agrees producer turned actor Yagnesh Dave, If the script revolves around a local backdrop, shooting in the location establishes that connect. Ahmedabad has so many beautiful
locations which fill up the screen wonderfully. So, we went ahead and shot at Kankaria Lake apart from exploring Adalaj Ni Vav.
