After beginning the year on a high with films like Short Circuit, touted as first Gujarati sci-fi film and Chaal Jeevi Laiye, the only BO winner this year till now, the first half of 2019 has been a lackluster show. With 16 films hitting the theatres, only one worked in terms of BO collection with even multi-starrers like Order Order Out Of Order and Lapet and star driven films like Malhar Thakar’s Saheb and Hiten Kumar starrer Jalsaghar performing poorly at the ticket window.
Kiran Kumar starrer Have Thashe Baap Re was pulled off by the filmmakers at the last moment on the pretext of a controversy surrounding its title making it tough going for
Dhollywood
. Even films like Kachindo that was heavily promoted as the first ever Gujarati film shot in Paris failed to attract numbers at the ticket window. Various other films like Fakebook Dhamaal, Tu Chhe Ne, Nakkama, My Dear Babuchak released without any substantial impact at the BO.
But the second of 2019 looks promising for Dhollywood with few of the most anticipated and hatke films slated to release. Films like Montu Ni Bittu,

,
Gujarat 11
,
Chasani
,
47 Dhanshukh Bhawan
, 24 Carat Pittal, Machchhu etc are expected to bring something fresh to the Gujarati film platter.
