D-Towners want to light up lives this festive season

For most of us, Diwali and new year is the time for unlimited celebrations, love, togetherness, countless gifts and lip-smacking food. We give our homes a festive makeover with lights and diyas, prepare different cuisines and welcome guests with love and warmth. But in the midst of all the joy, seldom do we realize that not everyone is as privileged as us. For the security guard at your housing society, who earns peanuts but never takes a day off, or for those underprivileged kids that you come across while on your way to the office daily, it’s just like any other day of the week. While we crib about not having done enough shopping this festive season, these underprivileged kids, who don’t know where their next meal will come from, are overjoyed if someone offers them leftovers after a Diwali party. Not to forget the animals, for whom our celebrations can turn into nightmares, thanks to all the noise and air pollution. Surely, there can’t be a greater joy than making a contribution to their lives during the festive season? And that’s exactly what some of our D-Town actors are doing this time, making the new year a better one for those who aren’t as lucky as us.

I plan to sponsor a kid’s education: Bhakti Kubavat
Over the years, I have received a lot of love. So now, I want to experience the joy of giving, which gives a different high. I have planned to bring smiles on the faces of some underprivileged people and I will gift them some fresh mithai, instead of sharing the leftovers with them. Also, with winter approaching, I will gift them a few clothes to wear, which will be of great help. I am also planning to sponsor a kid’s education. What can be better than the gift of education for someone this Diwali?
I will donate clothes for infants: Dhwani Gautam
I strongly believe that sharing is caring, and the joy of giving offers the greatest happiness. This Diwali, I will donate clothes for infants, apart from sharing blankets, diyas, candles and sweets with some underprivileged people. I hope it will brighten up their Diwali and make them happy.

I just celebrated my birthday at an orphanage: Foram Mehta
I believe in togetherness and this time, I thought of celebrating my birthday with a few underprivileged girls. I got a cake with ‘Happy Diwali’ written over it, and made all the girls cut the cake. I visit this orphanage quite often, but it was for the first time that I celebrated my birthday with them. And the priceless smile on their faces was my best birthday gift!
I will encourage people to adopt animals: Deeksha Joshi
My new year resolution is to encourage people to adopt the animals who are in need. Unfortunately, I already have a huge pet dog at home and so, I won’t be able to adopt any more cats or puppies. But I would urge all those, who wish to have pets, to go for adoption. There are many lovely animals that are waiting to be adopted. Different organizations in the city are also working towards making sure that more and more strays are taken care of and adopted.
I donated clothes to make Diwali special for underprivileged kids: Aarohi Patel
I donate clothes every year, apart from donating food almost every week. As kids, we were taught not to waste food. Every time there is a special occasion in the family, like a birthday or a festival, we make it a point to donate food. There is no compulsion and we do it out of pure love. If there is any compulsion, it becomes a task. At the beginning of this year, when my nani passed away, we went to Prakash school (for kids with special needs) and spent a day with them. I will be doing the same again in December. Recently when my cousin got married, we distributed food packets and fed them all. I have already donated clothes this week to make Diwali special for a few underprivileged kids. Most of these clothes were brand new. I will be doing more in the coming weeks. My idea of making Diwali special for the underprivileged includes gifting clothes and sharing loads of sweets and chocolates with them.
