Sukhmanch Theatre performed its play - 'Chief Ki Daawat' at Lok Kala Manch recently. It is a dramatic collage of Bhisham Sahni's selected stories that depicts the sense of compassion, values of universal humanism and lucid narrative. Director
Shilpi Marwaha’s stage adaptation of these classics by Bhisham Sahni outlines the dimensions of human behaviour as well as addressing the larger social cause.
While stories like 'Amristrar Aa Gaya Hai' and 'Pali' show the horrors and the destructions people faced during Partition of India, stories like Mata Vimata reveal the deep rooted compassion and unflinching love individuals have for each other. Stories like Nimit shows the role of fate in one’s life and Chief Ki Daawat which is considered as masterpieces of Hindi literature shows harsh reality of society and how urban household today treat its elders and ageing parents. The show was presented during Sukhmanch Theatre’s ongoing Summer Theatre Festival. The play brought smile on the faces of audience as well as left them emotional as Shilpi Marwaha along with her team of actors mesmerised them with their brilliant performance.
