Rangakarmee debuts first English production EERAA, explores silence and self
Theatre group Rangakarmee premiered its first English-language production, EERAA - A Woman’s Search for Mirra Alfassa, at the Rangakarmee Studio Theatre on Thursday, drawing a strong emotional response from audiences.
Directed by Anirudh Sarkar, the production marks a significant departure in style following his META Award–winning play Chandaa Bedni. With EERAA, Sarkar leans into stillness, silence and minimalism, crafting what viewers described as an immersive, almost meditative theatrical experience where pauses held as much meaning as dialogue.
Inspired by the life and philosophy of Mirra Alfassa, the narrative unfolds as an introspective journey, navigating themes of memory, identity and the search for inner peace in an increasingly restless world.
The performance is anchored by Ranjini Ghosh, whose restrained and measured presence complements the director’s vision, lending a quiet emotional resonance to the production.
Audience reactions highlighted the play’s reflective tone and sparse staging, with many describing it as “peace in chaos.” With EERAA, Rangakarmee signals an evolving artistic direction—one that embraces introspection and experimentation while continuing to engage contemporary audiences.
