Ramesh Sippy to deliver 31st KIFF's Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture

At a press meet held at Rabindra Sadan on Tuesday, Santanu Basu, Principal Secretary, announced that veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy will deliver this year’s Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture on November 7 at 11.30 am.

“The Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture has always been one of the festival’s most loved and awaited sessions,” Basu said. “This year, we are honoured to have Ramesh Sippy, the director of Sholay, especially as the film celebrates its 50th year. His contribution to Indian cinema makes him a perfect choice for this year’s lecture.”

Sippy, who redefined mainstream Hindi cinema with films like Sholay (1975), Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Shaan (1980), Shakti (1982), and Saagar (1985), is expected to reflect on his five-decade journey and the changing landscape of Indian cinema.
