Years of ostracisation and discrimination has forced Chhattisgarh’s transgender community to live in isolation. However, wi th changing times, acceptance has become the new norm in Raipur. While there’s a dedicated cafe in Raipur— Nukkad, The Teafe— run by entrepreneur Priyank Sharma, hires members from the trans community at the cafe, Raipur Smart City Corporation Limited recently organised a four-day beauty contest for the community at Medical College auditorium in the city. The beauty contest has participants from across Chhattisgarh.
Speaking to us about the contest, the PR of RSCCL says, "The beauty contest is an effort to send a message of inclusivity and acceptance to the society. It is also very empowering for the trans people to come out in the open and tell their side of the story to the world."
