Veterans pay tribute to Pt. Bhimsen Joshi through ‘Abhivadan’
Punekars got an opportunity to listen to the ‘Gayaki of Kirana Gharana’ in the musical program named ‘Abhivadan’. The event was organised to remember the contribution of great vocalist, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi to the Indian Classical Music. It was organised by Kalashree Sangeet Mandal and Kannada Sangha at Shakuntala Shetty Auditorium, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar.
Malati Kalmadi, Secretary, Kannada Sangha, Shridhar Kalmadi, Kushal Hegade, President, Kannada Sangha, Shriniwas Joshi, President, Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, Shilpa Joshi, Shubhada Mulgund and Sudhakar Chanvhan, President, Kalashree Sangeet Mandal were also present at the occasion.

As Pt. Bhimsen Joshi’s birthday falls in February, he was also awarded with the highest honor of the country- ‘Bharatratna’ in the same month. So to celebrate the occasions, the event paid a tribute to the musical maestro.
The event opened with the performance of Shashwati Chavhan, disciple of vocalist Sudhakar Chavhan who performed Raga Multani. She was followed by Viraj Joshi, young vocalist and grandson of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Viraj performed Raag Yaman and some of the compositions sung by his grandfather, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.
Punekars also got a chance to listen to Aarti Ankalikar- Tikekar, renowned vocalist of Jaipur- Atrauli Gharana and Shujat Khan, a renowned Sitarist. Aarti Ankalikar- Tikekar performed Raga Nand and Raan Basant Bahar and Shujat Khan performed Raag Kamod. The event concluded with the performance of Dr. Prabha Are, veteran vocalist of Kirana Gharana who performed Raag Jog Kans.
