On Sunday, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (

SPPU

) distributed 16631 saplings as part of its

Green Wari

initiative to students from more than 300 colleges who volunteer for the National Service Scheme (NSS).

In the attempt to create a world record, SPPU started the Green

Wari

initiative, which will continue till July 15, under which the saplings distributed are aimed to be planted across the Pune-Pandharpur route of the annual

Pandharichi Wari

. The initiative itself aims to promote ecological awareness, water conservation and regenaration of tree cover.
