The evening of January 28, saw children of varied age groups perform on the paths of saint Tukaram; a famous poet-saint from the land of
Maharashtra whose work is still honoured. Through Swatantra Theatre’s Children Productions they constantly explore different literature of Indian Origin and every time try to bring out the literature love through their acting.
Tukaram was born in the year 1608 at Dehu, a village near Pune to a family who were devoted followers of the deity
Vitthal
or
Vithoba
( form of Lord Vishnu). The family belonged to the
Kunbi
caste; they were moneylenders and traders by profession.
To bring out this flavour, Swatantra theatre of Pune this time chose Tukaram Maharaj, not only because his ‘Abhangas’ became the most important asset of Marathi Literature but also contemporary saints like him have brought our society on the right track by bringing a social change in the areas of discrimination, ignorance.
.
The play was based in Hindi language and was held at Pt.
Jawaharlal Nehru Sanskritik Bhavan, Ghole road.
