Rhythm and applause marked the celebration of dance in the city recently as part of Nrityarohini, a Kathak tribute to Guru Rohini Bhate. Organiser Prajakta Raj and her disciples, dressed in vibrant silks, took the audience by storm with their rhythmic movements and expressions. Prajakta's solo performance was a lesson in storytelling through movement. The first day of the two-day fest culminated with a recital of abhangs.

The second day showcased the beauty of the Guru-Shishya tradition. Performances by Abha Wamburkar, Neelima Adhye and Asawari Patankar were followed by Rajshree Javadekar's disciples recreating instances from Lord Krishna's childhood, and Prerna Deshpande's students channeling devotion to Lord Shiva, through their acts.

All performers united for the final act as a tribute to Bhate. Dance moves were accompanied by vocalists Arpita Vaishampayan and Arthav Vairagkar, and the beats of tabla and pakhwaj. As the final notes faded, the audience left the venue enthralled, carrying with them a piece of these rich cultural traditions.
