Dressed in black T-shirts that proclaimed – ‘Our Planet. Theirs Too’ – the activists gathered at the gate of the Taljai Tekdi Cricket Stadium near Sahakarnagar, from where they marched to the elevated ground near the stadium, carrying posters featuring pictures of caged animals, who lost their lives to human cruelty. Following this, they observed a moment of silence, and offered flowers in the animals’ memory.

Khushpreet Binu, the organiser of the Pune edition of the event, told us, “Many people harm animals without realising it. We are conditioned to accept their suffering as normal, until someone comes along and shows us the truth. With the number of animal activists increasing in the city, Pune has joined hands with the organisation, and signed the declaration put up by

NARD

.” The program also included speeches by animal activists, followed by a celebration of the major steps taken towards ending the suffering of animals and adopting a non-cruelty-based lifestyle.

Organised by United For Compassion worldwide across cities like Los Angeles, Toronto, Frankfurt, London, Paris,

Copenhagen

, New York, Mumbai, and Manila, the objective of the event is to give a voice to billions of animals, mourn the ones lost and lead people to transition to a path of peace and a plant-based lifestyle.
