An evening with the masters of music

On Sunday, Punekars were in for a double treat as Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty got on the stage. While the two have performed in the city previously, this was the first time they performed together. It was indeed a treat for those in attendance. Apart from music, Chakraborty also shared his admiration for Hussain.

Sharing an anecdote from a US tour that he did years ago, Chakrabarty said, “The tour was organised by Zakir Hussain ji, who also showed up driving his car to pick us up personally, dropped us at the motel and handed me some money from his wallet saying ‘Isko rakh lijiye. Kaam aa sakta hai’. Even in India we travelled to various cities and wherever we went, he would go to the homes of veteran artistes in that area and present them with something. We all know that he’s a brilliant artiste. But I want to share that he’s also one of the finest human beings I know. Zakir Hussain ji jaise kalakar sadiyo mein ek baar aate hai. Aur insaaniyat mein ye mere liye koi guru se kam nahi hai.”
