As soon as the light fell on the centre stage, and the curtains went up, the audience was treated with an hour and a half-long fashion extravaganza
with students-turned models sashaying on the ramp in most jazzy, shimmering, flamboyant, and even fantastical outfits.

From Devil wearing bomber jacket to Satan pacing up and down the ramp in shimmery outfits; angels in golden-winged outfits tiptoeing around the headlamp; a sleepwear-clad model with a pillow in her hand and eye mask on her forehead lazily dragging herself to the head ramp, and a male and female model trying to entice each other, the ramp of the annual fashion show at the

Armed Forces Medical College

(AFMC) turned into a striking, visual representation of human behaviour. The show, Panache, was inspired by the seven deadly sins and students from seven colleges explored how each of these vices- lust, sloth, greed, wrath, pride, gluttony and envy- dominate our thoughts.

As a part of AFMC’s annual college fest Silhouettes, the fashion show saw participation of students from AFMC (Pune),

Army Law College

(Pune), Kasturba Medical College (Mangalore),

Ramaiah Institute of Technology

(Bengaluru), Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital And Medical College (Mumbai), INHS Asvini College of Nursing (Mumbai), and Dr D. Y.

Patil Medical College

, Hospital & Research Centre.

Daanish, a student from AFMC, who was the brainchild behind the show, believes that all seven sins are closely related to each other and together, they are plaguing the world. He says, “I am particularly drawn to wrath. I feel it’s the reason behind unrest in some parts of the world. Lust and envy drive power-hungry people towards achieving their materialistic goals at the cost of others.”

The fashion show itself was a mix of outfits, props and acts. The participating colleges weren’t allowed to reveal their names during the show. The winning team names were announced only after they were judged. While D Y Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre bagged the first prize, Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, stood second, and Army Law College bagged the third position.

Stuti Bagga, a student from KMC, Mangalore, shared, “Our idea behind the designs is that the devil who created these sins is omnipresent in our world and is taking precedence over the good.” She added, “For our show, we used everyday material, especially what we discard, like plastic, paper plates, plastic rolls, nets, wrapping paper, medals etc, to promote sustainability.
