Acting guru Roshan Taneja remembered at FTII

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Monday organised a condolence meet on campus to pay

to

acting

guru

Roshan Taneja

who founded the acting department at

FTII

in 1963. He trained Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Naseeruddin Shah, Tom Alter, Zarina Wahab, Benjamin Gilani, Mithun Chakraborty, Subhash Ghai among other popular actors at the institute.

In 1976, he started his own acting school in Mumbai where Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Ranbir Kapoor among others were trained. Many alumni remembered Roshan Taneja at the condolence meet. People who had the privilege of interacting with him like Phonsok Ladakhi were present at the meet.

The director of FTII Bhupendra Kainthola says, “As the founder of the Acting Department, he tutored and mentored a galaxy of actors who went on to become the who's who of Hindi cinema in the 70s and 80s. In June 2017, Roshan Taneja was honoured in FTII by his students in a programme called Guruvandana and his autobiography was launched in the Campus. Taneja Sir, as he is fondly called, will be deeply missed and remembered.”
