Sports enthusiasts awarded on National Sports Day

Like every year, this year too, Bihar’s sports department organised a grand event to celebrate the National Sports Day, which is organised on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major

. On the occasion, dedicated sportspersons, who have brought laurels to the state and the country, are being felicitated at the Partliputra Sports Complex.

Altogether 343 sports enthusiasts are being honoured to encourage them as well as other sportsperson of the state. Sweety Singh, a 19-year-old kabbadi player from Gaya, said, “I am very excited to get this award. This is my first such honour. I have playing kabbadi for the past four years and I have won many inter-district kabbadi championships organised in Gaya and Patna. This award will motivate me even more. I request the government to provide us with good coaches and sports grounds so that we can practise our game with full dedication.”

Sharing similar views, Chanda Mahto, a 22-year-old badminton player from Bihta, said, “Celebration of National Sports Day is a big occasion for all of us. Today, it’s the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the great hockey player and we pay tributes to him. I thank the government for this award and I would also like to request the sports department to provide us with amenities so that we can also fly high like PV Sindhu. She is my inspiration and I want to follow her footsteps.”
