Poll fashion: What are star candidates wearing?
The Lok Sabha elections are less than two months away and the list of star contestants is already out. Several celebrities have joined various political parties to contest in the elections and are leaving no stone unturned to make sure they win in the race. Besides addressing the public with their hard-hitting speeches, these celebs are also upping the glam quotient of the parties they are contesting from. From saris to traditional kurtis and kurtas teamed with ethnic coats — these star candidates are dressed for the occasion and how!
Hema Malini
The sari has long been the most favourite ensemble for women candidates in politics. Its ubiquitous presence in party merchandises line, too, doesn’t come across as a surprise. Hema Malini, who kickstarted her campaigning from Mathura a week back, was seen in a beautiful, pale-yellow sari, the colour of which seemed to almost merge with that of the bundles of freshly harvested crops she posed with. She completed her look with red bangles, a minimalistic pearl neckpiece and a red bindi.
Moon Moon Sen
Yesteryear actress Moon Moon recently campaigned at a party meeting in Amritnagar looking beautiful in a chiffon sari. The Trinamool Congress nominee from Asansol Lok Sabha constituency donned a sari in floral prints, spring’s favourite pattern. The quintessential Bengali traditional bangles –shakha and pola – along with a big, red bindi completed her look.
Prakash Raj
Prakash Raj, contesting as an independent candidate from Bengaluru Central, might have a thing for the colour white! Why, you ask? The actor is often seen campaigning in immaculate white shirts. He went to file his nomination papers in Bangalore with his family in the tried-and-tested sartorial combo — a half-sleeved white casual shirt and blue denims. He was also seen at an election rally where he addressed the crowd wearing a white shirt and black denims.
Urmila Matondkar
Adding a generous dose of glamour to the Congress' party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls is Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar who has taken the political plunge. The actress, who clearly looks as if she’s aging backward, met the party’s president Rahul Gandhi recently. She chose a cream salwar-kameez and minimalistic jewellery for the occasion. The actress was also spotted during a meeting with Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora, wearing a pale blue sari teamed with a white blouse. Stylish, comfortable and simplistic — what’s not to like?
Manoj Tiwari
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari likes to keep it casual, albeit with a traditional touch. The singer-turned-politician is mostly seen wearing a kurta or shirt teamed with a Jawahar coat. Tiwari also slips into white shirts and formal trousers for rallies and public appearances. Only recently, he addressed a rally in New Delhi looking dapper in a white shirt and a
Shatrughan Sinha’s dressing style is quite unique. For election campaigns, the veteran actor has chosen black. Only recently, Shotgun senior addressed the public wearing a black kurta and a contrasting white scarf. He also met his party chief wearing a black kurta and a checkered Nehru coat. He almost never forgets his aviator sunnies!
Babul Supriyo
BJP candidate from Asansol Lok Sabha constituency, Babul Supriyo, is almost always spotted in kurtas. And why not? Nothing beats the comfort of a cotton kurta. The singer-turned-politician addressed an election campaign in Kulti area in Asansol constituency wearing a white kurta and a scarf that bore the motif of BJP’s flag.
Dinesh Lal Yadav
Bhojpuri actor-singer Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Azamgarh constituency on a BJP ticket. While the actor’s funky style has always been talked about, he has opted for a rather simpler and might we add, more formal look, for the campaigns and meetings. Printed shirts have been his wardrobe staple for the campaigns with kurtas and Jawahar coats making occasional appearances.
