Advances in audiovisual technologies have brought filmmaking within reach of even those who don’t have huge budgets. The result has been nothing short of inspiring. Many films made on shoestring budgets have made people sit up and take notice. And such films have also brought to the fore talented actors, who have made a mark on digital mediums or even the small screen. Here are a few such actors of the state who are living their dreams of acting in films and are making a mark in the process.
Kritika Gupta
Born and bought up in

, Kritika is fast becoming a name to reckon with on the small screen. The 23-year-old actress hails from a business family and had plans to pursue a career in engineering before destiny deemed otherwise. She got her first break in Dooradarshan shows in 2013 and went on to be a part of shows like SOS, Kanooni Salah, Chitrahaar, Krishi Darshan and many more. She has also performed in stage productions and many short films. Her hobby is to write stories on social issues. Currently, she is working with cinematographer Nikhil Prakash.
Ujjwal Srivastava
Ujjwal, a second-year mass communications student in a city college, has big dreams. And he has been working on fulfilling them for quite a while now. In fact, his short regional film, Breathe, was selected for the JIFA (Jharkhand Film Festival Award) and
Darbhanga
International Film Festival early this year. Ujjwal has made two short films and five docus till now and is currently working on a short horror series. He also has his own web series, Viral Kalakar, which has more than 7,000 subscribers.
Vikrant Chauhan
Vikrant’s regional film, Gopi, was recently selected for an international short film festival in Kochi. He has also acted in almost short films and documentaries including Nine and Wonderer. Hailing from the small town of Islampur in Nalanda district, Vikrant wanted to pursue education in Patna Art College, but ended up doing a course in animation in Pune. There, he joined an acting class and acted in several stage productions. He then went on to make a short film, Memorable Moment, and since then, there has been no turning back. “I see struggle as a hidden opportunity and I’m willing to take risks for my career to be promising and fruitful,” he told us.
Rahul Verma
Rahul Verma started his modelling career in 2015. He wanted to try his luck in acting, so he joined acting classes and landed a small role in the movie Akira (2016). He then moved to the small screen and worked in TV soaps like Ishqbaaz, Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchan Hai, Yeh Hai Aashiqi and 24 Season 2. His first break came in 2017 when he was offered the role of an Indian King with Sonu Sood in the Hollywood movie Xuan Zang. But that did not stop Rahul from acknowledging the importance of Bhojpuri movies and he went on to doing regional movies like Hindustani Chora Pakistani Chori and Kaidi Chaand. These days Rahul is busy with his own production house where he wants to make movies focused on social issues. He has also been felicitated with several awards by the district magistrate for his works.
Rubi Khatun
Rubi Khatun has featured in many ads for the Government of
Bihar, like Nira Kendra, Dahej Pratha, Baal Vivah, Nari Sashaktikaran and more. Her active participation in promoting Bihar’s culture and social issues has made her gain her popularity across households. Belonging to the small town of Nalanda, she has bagged roles in serials like Dabang Chunariya, Dastan-e-Zurm and many more. “My dream is to join Bollywood and improve the image of Bihar. Biharis are immensely gifted and I want to do something big for my state and country,” said Rubi.
