There may be many who associate Rajasthan with things traditional ��� like folk music, ghagra-choli and spicy food.
However, this perception was changed recently as young girls and boys of Rajasthan fought a close battle to decide who the two most fashionable youngsters in the desert state were. The event was Miss and Mr Desert India 2008, held at the Ravindra Manch open-air theatre.A 5000-strong audience was witness to an interesting fashion show, high energy dance performances and of course a nail-biting contest.
RAMP RAGE: The audience was witness to a bevy of beauties from across Rajasthan sashaying down the ramp in chic outfits. Matching their steps were cool dudes who looked macho and complemented the women. The audiences broke out in spontaneous cheers every time a contestant hit the ramp. However, the USP of the show was the collections presented by designers of 9 fashion institutes of the state and one from Delhi. If INIFD, Alwar impressed every one with their theme of global warming, then IIFT, Delhi���s Cocktail collection was something that was jaw dropping. ���This is one the best shows I have seen in a while. I am happy to be present at this event,��� said Preeti Bhudiraja, a student, who was chilling out with her batch mates.
STARRY AFFAIR: The evening saw a fair amount of known faces from the fashion world in the form of Priyanka Shah, Miss Tourism���07 and Nandini Vaid, Miss India Earth���05 who walked the ramp with contestants. But the entire amphitheatre was resounding with cheers when actress Sakshi Gulati, who was present in the show as a judge addressed the audience. ���It���s great that such an event is taking place in Jaipur because usually girls and boys from big cities make it to glam world. But with such events even talents from small towns will also get opportunity,��� Sakshi said.
THREE CHEERS: For Aakriti and Bunty who were adjudged Miss Desert India and Mr Desert India respectively, the evening rocked, literally! ���Today I am very happy, and now I am determined to go for the Miss India title,��� said Aakriti while Bunty added, ���It was a very tough journey but in the end all my efforts have turned into sweet rewards and now I will try my luck at the Mega Model contest.���
