Who doesnt like to hear a good story, told well! And if the story is about how stories actually came into existences, then theres no way any story teller or listener would want to miss it. No surprise then that when Mahmood Farooqi and Danish Husain narrated the history of kissas and kahanis, the audience that had turned up that evening were left spell bound.
The event titled Dastangoi was organised by Siyahi in association with the department of Art, Literature and Culture, Shruti Mandal and Jawahar Kala Kendra.
Referring to Dastan-e-Amir hamza, the largest fictional narrative composed in Urdu, and written in 46 volumes, Mahmood Farooqi said Dastangoi is a medieval art of narrating dastans. It forms the backbone of the early Parsi theatre and Hindi cinema and lends itself to improvisation.
I have seen Mahmood and Danish performing in numerous literary festivals and every time they have proved themselves masters at their job, said Ankita.
