Shubha on stage (TOI Photo)It was a welcome relief for IIT-Kanpur students who usually have a very tight schedule. And the credit for this goes to SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth) who had invited classical singer Shubha Mudgal to perform at the institute. While Mudgal’s husband Aneesh Pradhan accompanied her on tabla, Sudhir Nayak played the harmonium.
Shubha Mudgal dedicated her first rendition-Mere kartar sharan payu in raag Murlidhanashaya to her guru Pt Ramshreya Jha.
Though the audience was very appreciative of the subtle nuances of her singing throughout it was only when she presented Chuniriya laye mohe balma the audience gave her a standing ovation. As much was Dekhi teri aan baan shaan which was appreciated by one and all. Prof Prawal Sinha who came along with wife Malani was enjoying himself. Ditto with Prof Kripa Shanker and Dr V Vankar. However, the sad part was that many youngsters in the auditorium were seen sleeping while Shubha Mudgal was performing.
