BLACK MAGIC: Sonika Jaiswal (TOI Photo)With Saawan about to wind up leaving Lucknowites high and dry, what is all the better is the host of Teej parties happening in the city. The festival holds a special importance in a newly married couple’s life and when friends get together to celebrate. And that’s how it was when a well-known local club whose members got together to celebrate the occasion in their own special way.
The novel approach was given by dividing the members into two groups Gharatis and Baratis.
The centre stage held a mandap decorated beautifully with flowers giving the feeling of a traditional wedding ceremony. Several games were played in which Bichhiyas and payals were given as prizes. The games were held inside the mandap. The first contest was dumb charades followed by a couple dance, which was really worth watching as the couples from both teams danced to their hearts’ content. The Gharatis took the lead as the Baratis faltered in sending a couple and were easily declared winners.
The ladies were naturally more enthusiastic as this was their festival and this enthusiasm was visible in the way the ladies danced in the solo dance numbers. Dancing on tracks like Jaane bhi do jo hua, Maria maria, etc, the ladies taught the men folk a thing or two in having fun. Games like finding the coin in thaal of coloured water with petals etc evoked laughter from all the participants and the audience. An exchange of varmaalas by the couples was also performed amid coy glances. The occasion concluded by cutting the cake followed by the National Anthem. The others spotted were Anuj Gupta, Nikhil Agarwal, Aditya Agarwal, Dolly Rastogi and Ruchi Agarwal.
