Not everyone needs four walls to feel at home — sometimes four wheels will do just fine. For 22-year-old Seth from Nashville, home is wherever his pickup truck is parked. Instead of settling into a 9-to-5 and a traditional house, the young adventurer built a tiny home worth $3,000 on the back of his truck and set off across America with his dog, Stella. “I’m building a tiny home on the back of my truck so I can live rent-free and travel around the country,” Seth told his 450,000 social media followers in a viral video.
Wheels over wallsSeth began the DIY project in January 2025, transforming the 4-foot-wide bed of his 2003 Ford Ranger into a snug, insulated space made of plywood. “I decided to take the leap to chase freedom and adventure over a year ago now,” he said to What’s The Jam. “It felt like the simplest way to create a life that was mine, even if it meant trading comfort for independence.” After the Ranger’s engine gave out, he upgraded to a 1995 Ford F-250 with a camper attached — and the road life continues.
Life on the open roadFor Seth, the nomadic lifestyle comes with thrills, chills and unforgettable stories. “That first evening on the road was surreal… realising this was actually my ‘house’ now,” he recalled. Not every night is peaceful though: “Once I woke up to a bear sniffing around the outside of the camper in Alaska. That was a mix of terrifying and unforgettable.”
Still, the freedom keeps him going. “I can wake up to a sunrise on the coast, cook dinner in the middle of nowhere, and move whenever I want… That freedom beats square-footage.”
