The Godavari river scape in Nashik is not just ecologically important, but has religious, socio cultural and heritage associations too. However over the last few years, people have lost connect to this vital river.
Thus, in a bid to rekindle this lost connect, Godavari Parikrama was arranged on January 14
th. The purpose of this walk was to showcase the rich heritage and beauty of the vital river.
“ This initiative was for the people to understand the present status of the river. If people connect with the river, it will help in conservation of its ecology,” informed Shilpa Dahake, initiator of a people participatory movement, Reconnecting with Godavari,
which conducted this walk.
This walk covered a stretch of around 8 km from Ramkund to Tapovan and back. “ This stretch has most heritage places, which was the reason why we chose it,” Shilpa further informed.
