Members of the Rotary Club of Nagpur Main were seen having a jovial time at a city hotel, as it was the installation ceremony of the new Board of Directors of the club. Men were seen sporting neon neckties, and women carried their bright sarees with a lot of grace and elegance. The ex President Prashant Kale handed over the charge to the new President Bharat Goenka, and his board.
V S Sirpurkar, the retired judge of the Supreme Court of India and TGL Iyer received awards for vocational excellence. After the installation, there was a toast raising ritual. Bharat Goenka raised a toast to the President of India. Following that, Rajeev Bahl raised a toast to all the women, albeit cheekily. To reciprocate, Shweta Singh raised a toast loaded with quips and one-liners, dedicated to all men, which invoked a lot of laughter from the crowd. When we caught up with Bharat, he said, "It was a gala night, as the installation of Rotary Club Main is a grand affair. This year, we are setting up surgical camps in the Hemalkasa area for the local tribes living there. We are also going to open a skin bank in Nagpur, which will be the fifth of its kind in the country, and will be a huge help to patients undergoing treatment for serious burns. We are also planning to set up a state-of-the-art hospital in Melghat. In short, we will light up many lives." This motto to light up lives was also reflected in the glamorously lit venue.
