The two distinctive pinnacles of Bangla Literature, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam, were paid obeisance to commemorate their birth anniversaries with a ‘Kabi Pranam’ recently organised by Roop Ranga, the local Bengali Creative and Performing Arts forum.
‘Nabadishari’, a Cultural Association from Jadhavpur, Kolkata, regaled the audience with their mellifluous renditions of Rabindra sangeet and Nazrul Geeti. The musical extravaganza opened with Gurudev’s immortal Agnee beena bajao tume emon kore…. Sung by Meeta Ray. Smt. Anjali Pal-Choudhury rendered ‘bhakti-mulak sangeet by Kazi Nazrul, Gagane Krishna megh dole, sudure Krishna dole Brindabane, Gama Mandal’s Phul bagichar bulbuli ami, gayi premer gazal aaJ, Rekha Banerjee’s Ei jeebane mitbe na swaad, truly speaks of the unquenched desire of an encore of the versatility of compositions of the two immortal poets. The tabla accompaniment was given by Ashim Mandal.
Sarbari Ray’s melodious ‘Nazrul Pranam’. ‘Abritti’ (Poetry Recitation) was done by Ram Bandopadhyaya and S.N. Thakur. ‘Shruti Natak’ – Daan-Pratidaan, written by Tagore, was presented by local artistes under the direction of Ram Bandopadhyaya.
