To understand life in all its myriad hues and enjoy it's every moment, does it take a bit of insanity? Or does it require you to listen to your inner voice, your heart? The Marathi play Sukhanshi Bhaandato Aamhi (Fighting With Happiness) staged at the Vasantrao Deshpande Hall over the weekend, delved into this aspect in the most rivetting manner. As lead actors Chinmay Mandlekar (playing an insane person) and Girish Oak (playing a psychiatrist) brought to life the insightful play written by Abhiram Bhadkamkar, with their stunning performances, the audience too played their part by being a responsive one.
While the sheer poetry in some lines got the wah wahs from the audience, some emotionally choked lines brought out collective sighs. And it was not all grim, as a particularly funny "drunk" scene between Girish and Chinmay had the audience laughing heartily and clapping.
Fans all! At the start of the play NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane said that he had a free evening and wanted to take his wife out. "We had heard good things about the play and so we are here," he said. And it sure looked like he didn't regret coming here one bit as he was seen enjoying every minute of the play! During the intermission of the play, as people were busy snacking, we heard quite a few rave about the variety of emotions that Chinmay was portraying, and were making plans to meet him backstage for a pic.
Whether those plans of the audience clicked, we don’t know, but what did click big time was the play itself! Proof of it was the standing ovation that the cast got from all those present in the auditorium at the end of the play, which left organiser Sameer Pandit a happy man, quite naturally!
