The pen indeed was mightier than the sword at this awards evening to honour the best in the Indian literary field. It was a conglomeration of literary masterminds and others passionate about books. Indian English fiction readers were in for a surprise as renowned author Amitav Ghosh shared the podium with newcomer Neel Mukherjee. Winners in other categories included Basharat Peer, Manohar Shyam Joshi, Ira Pande and Pallavi Aiyar.
And who better to have as chief guest at a function like this than prominent author and winner of a number of awards herself, Nayantara Sahgal, the niece of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Enjoying the panel discussion on Indian literature were designer Archana Kochchar, R Sriram, noted literary critic Nilanjana Roy and a host of publishers and academics.
