On a rainy evening this week, when it was dark and gloomy owing to the harsh weather, a group of Mumbaikars decided to laugh the blues away at a comic book cafe at Versova. On Monday, they headed there by 8.30 pm, for a night with some stand-up comics. Says organiser Rohan Desai, "It was planned at that time so that people could get here post work hours." The audience numbered about 20 in all.
He added, “It was an intimate gathering as that is how much the space allowed. What's more, everyone was surrounded by comic books all around and that made it relaxed and lighthearted.”
It was mostly a floor seating, but people also grabbed a few stools and space on
chatais to sit. The line-up comprised seven to eight comics, each one doing seven minutes each, and totally for 90 minutes.
Stand-up comic Urooj Ashfaq was up first. She mostly asked what people do in their day and took off on that. There were also jokes on her own friends. There were other comics, too. Stand-up comic Saurav Mehta talked about his time in Kolkata, Jeeya Sethi spoke about her friendships from school and for Ashutosh Gupta, it was a mixed bag. Adds organiser Shreemayee Das, “It was fun to see everyone having a chilled-out time.”
A few people also stayed back and dinner after the show.
