The auditorium could fit around 250 people but there were over 700 people in attendance at the special screening of select Marathi films at a Marathi film fest put together by Vijaya Mehta. In fact, there was such an encouraging response that over half the crowd was left outside the auditorium, leaving Vijaya no choice but to hold another screening after this one got over!
Mahesh Manjrekar, Neena Kulkarni, Arun Khopkar, Sanjeev Naik, Vinod Tawde — a few of the people we spotted among the crowd.
And amidst the rush of people wanting to get in, special invitee Chandrashekhar Pusalkar (Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson) was stopped at the entrance and told to come for the later show, until Neena recognised him and came to the rescue!
Guess Vijaya’s plan to bring Marathi cinema to South Mumbai from its original home in Dadar and the burbs, worked way beyond her expectations!
