Shammi back in Yahoo! days

It was strictly old Bollywood nite on Saturday at Worli Seaface when Subhash Sanas, the Pune builder, hotelier, entrepreneur and collector of vintage cars, celebrated his birthday in Mumbai with friends.
And friends, like his much envied car collection, included vintage Bollywood stars now faded — but still gracious and charming with every old world detail.
Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, with kids Sameer and Pankaj in tow, was among the first to come and last to leave. Subhash and wife Neelam settled the mantriji down and then played host to the others that braved the wet and weepy night to celebrate the birthday. There was Shammi Kapoor who drove up to the venue himself, then had to be helped out and into a wheelchair, the eyes full of sparkle, the handshake firm, the voice strong.
In a throwback to his Yahoo! days, Shammiji took the mike and belted out a number in tribute to his host. He was accompanied by wife Neeladevi, son Aditya, daugher Kanchan and son-in-law Ketan Desai. The Kapoor khandaan was also represented by Rishi, Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor, all as bonhomous as could be.
There was Prem Chopra (“My name is Prem, Prem Chopra!”), Umesh Mehra, Asha Sachdev and Anju Mehendroo from old Bollywood. And Kiran Shantaram and Deepa and Dr Suhas Awchat, the eclectic designer Lino and energetic hotelier Vithal Kamat, Raj Kumar Nagpal, Tarita Shankar, builders Narendra Gupta, Kailash Aggarwal and Anil Aggarwal, Abbas Jasdanwalla, Asif Bhamla and Dr Ajeenkya Patil, M N Singh and Satish Mathur, Sunali and Roopkumar Rathod, Sudesh Berry, the singer Abhijit who lent his mellifluous voice to the evening, Shekhar Suman, and last man in — Jackie Shroff.
