'Dhanak', a novel based on Nagesh Kukunoor’s forthcoming movie by the same name, was launched in Mumbai on June 8.The event was attended by Kukunoor, award-winning author Anushka Ravishankar, who has done the novelisation, actors Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria, along with Raghu Ram and Rajiv Laxman. Ravishankar not only spoke about the various challenges that were involved in the process but also read extracts from the book.

When Kukunoor was asked what convinced him to share his story, he said, “I wasn’t so sure at first, but when I found out that 'Dhanak' will be the first Indian children’s film to be novelised, I thought it would be an exciting thing to attempt.”
The story is about two siblings, Pari and Chotu, as they set off on a road trip across Rajasthan to meet Shah Rukh Khan and get Chotu’s eyesight back.

Rajiv Laxman, who plays the role of Gardu Banna, a swashbuckling SRK fan in the film, was impressed with the author’s ability to transform the vibrant visuals of the Rajasthan landscape into words vividly.

The Q&A session was followed by Chotu and Pari re-enacting a scene from the film where the onscreen siblings battle it out for their favourite superstars — Salman and Shah Rukh.
The book is available in all leading bookstores, while 'Dhanak' the film releases on June 17.
